Obama and negativity at the workplace

•November 7, 2008 • 1 Comment

Hello world! Today I went to work with a smile on my face and joy in my heart. As I walked into the work place, I was greeted by hugs and fist-daps. My co-workers knew how much the election meant to me. They were their to hear the excitement in my voice for about two years. Please know that I did not express negativity about the McCain/Palin ticket. To keep it honest I just did not care. My mind was made up. I listen, read, and continued to educate myself about President-Elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

I am employed at a restaurant by the Atlanta Hartsfield airport. Please know that my boss (the general manager), the owner, and I sat together about 6 months ago and expressed our differences. We are all different and we each have a right to have different opinions. I totally understand that. In the meeting politics were one of the topics and I clearly stated that if we are going to have such strong disagreements, we should not talk politics at the work place. Throughout the days and months I was told that a black man was not ready to lead this country.

A police officer was informed that I was voting for Barack Obama by my manager, and he stated, “Nobama” to me. Questioning the statement and asking him to repeat himself he said it again. For a second, I did think that he said “Obama”. In actuality he said “Nobama”. Again, a right to an opinion, but please do not let the badge give you a right to say whatever, with a smirk on your face. Let me remind you…Who won the American vote?

To make a long story short, I have had to defend and speak my beliefs, at times, more than I wanted. We do not have to agree. We are a society where we are fortunate to have freedom of speech. With that said, we are not a society that must agree with the opposite but should respect each other.

I do not mind hearing others thoughts and views. I do mind when you see that our President-Elect is a man who does not fit “your” definition of Commander in Chief, you have a problem. When people who have a duty to run a business that has nothing to do with politics, that should be their focus, that business. I am the person people confide in. I do not mind the position, I only mind mistreatment and harassment to others.

Understanding without any misconceptions, I can be very verbal and speak my mind. Being one of those people who tells you when you ask, I do my part of self expression. When it pertains to facts, that is what I give. If I do not know I will say just that.

Today is Thursday and I have not been to work since last Friday. Unfortunately, before work today, I was told a bartender expressed to patrons at the restaurant, on Barack Obama’s big win, he was turning the channel because he was tired of watching the sh*#!!! Talk about trying to steal the moment. …move on and get over it and respect the change! Do not let nothing steal your joy!

The past two years, we would open the store with the televisions set on political and sports stations, no more. I guess “change” did happen! A moment in history. A moment we can all say, “yes we can!” Yes we can get over our own hate toward others. Yes we can move forward in a better direction. We have a lot of work to do as a country. Please know that I am fortunate to have a job. For you who have a job, it should be a place of employment and opportunity, not harassment.

I totally understand that an individual has a right to be full of hate, but please keep it in your personal domain, not at the workplace. Do I have customers who have expressed the same concerns, yes. Do several co-workers share my views, yes. Do we need to move forward, absolutely! People this is the first time in 44 elections…1out of 44…1out of 44…can this be a moment for celebration…geez!

Please let me express…may the best man win, and he did. World, everyone is not happy about this moment in history. O.k., I see it with my own eyes. Let go and let God! Now that I said that, that should be the final say. I love our country. I am so proud of our country. Barack Obama did it. Please get over it and stand behind the man who is soon to be the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama! Thank you and have a wonderful day.

We Did It!…Yes We Did!!!

We made HISTORY! I am full of joy with the outcome. Thank you everyone who cast your vote. Change we can believe in and change we need. For those who did not cast your vote for the right reason, shame on you. Today is a new day. It is up to us, not to vote once but on all election days.

It is one of those moments where you never forget where you were. Earlier in the day a group of supporters made phone calls, spoke to poll watchers and visited local neighborhoods. Yes, we even screamed out of car windows, “Barack Obama!”

There were five of us in our team of campaigners. A lady from Cameroon, only here in the United States for a year did not miss her opportunity. She was so delighted to take a call from her father who still lives in Africa. Her French accent was so nice to hear. I could not make out what she said although I did hear “Obama” very well. A white gentleman from New York shared the same excitement. He took off work as many of us did and was very productive and proud to share this moment. My friend Lyle and a co-worker friend of his just had the biggest smiles on their faces. We all came from different walks of life. We all had a different make up but one goal…President-Elect Barack Obama! All I can say is…”we did good”.

Later two of my girl friends went to Justin’s restaurant to watch the numbers come in. Dikembe Mutombo sat at a table beside us and just exuded joy. Cameras snapping a part of history. We all knew that we would never forget this moment. Strangers hugging, with tears and soggy noses, everywhere. We jumped up and down as we smelled and heard victory.

It is like winning the lottery and the prize is HOPE! Hope that will carry out a better today and a stronger tomorrow. Yesterday is no more. Today is here and we have so much to be thankful for. Americans, I ask to share the stage with you in a real life movie. We are all good guys and the great producer is the one and only, God Almighty.

We have a little down time between elections. Educate and become more knowledgeable about politics. Your voice was heard. Nothing we did was in vein. Today we are still in war. Pray for our troops. Pray for all Americans. Pray and think positive. Continue to speak life. Dream big and see that nothing is impossible. America the beautiful. Smile at everyone and have a new love for ourselves and our great land. Remember, we can do anything. YES WE CAN!

We need one another, right now. I am so proud to see this day. To sum it all up yet realizing that my thoughts are so much faster than my typing skills, I can only utter the word, hallelujah! Yes we can, and yes we did! Say it together…”President Barack Obama and God Bless America”.

Make History and Vote!

Today is the day that we can make history.  We have only a few hours to see the results (hopefully).  Please do not let nothing or no one discourage you from casting your vote.  Do everything that you can do, to do your part.  When it is all said and done, please pray for the families that traveled and stomped all over our beautiful country.

I love the United States of America, and I am sure you do.  Fellow Americans, we have neighbors losing their homes.  Our friends and families are without jobs.  We have  buried many courageous people that served our country.

Please do your part and stay in line and cast your vote.  Thank you and God Bless America!

…Barack Obama in our prayers

As I heard the news about Barack Obama’s grandmother dying today, my heart cried.  Please keep him and his family in your prayers.  I am sure his grandmother is in Heaven telling others to somehow have their loved ones vote for her grandson, Barack Obama!  Let your voice and prayers be heard, vote.

Moving Forward…”The Bradley Effect”

•October 19, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Have you ever thought to yourself, that is really being said? Why is this happening to me? Rather it be good or bad or why I am standing beside this individual. Let’s understand that it is for a reason, season, or life time. The other day I did early voting for the presidential race. While in line the first 30 minutes of my 1 hour and 45 minutes, a lady and I began to share stories. We shared stories about the history of the race. We spoke about how the debates showed pros/cons, and families stories were shared.

She has been a life long republican and now voting for Barack Obama. While she mentioned this to me and hearing herself she said, “wow”! Her response sounded genuine. She allowed both of us to realize that people can change and be excited about it. She mentioned that she was voting for this man for “real reasons”.

The lady mentioned that she told her brother that she was voting for Barack and he fell out of his chair. She did not tell if he really fell from is chair or if it was a figure of speech. Not knowing if he fell from the chair or not maybe he did bump his head. No, I am not wanting the man to get hurt. Sometimes if you hit your head you are able to rethink or examine the the reasons for certain actions and beliefs. All I am saying is that if he or anyone is voting for the wrong reasons, please be bigger than that. Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Blacks, Whites, Indians, Alabamians, New Yorkers…what ever, do the right thing. We were all created by God.

The lady did not have “The Bradley Effect” on her face. The face that she had was a face that wanted major change in our beautiful country. We see the gas prices, banks going bust, food skyrocketing families being torn because of job losses and foreclosures. May the best man win, and race and rage be tossed.

We have two ears to listen and one mouth to speak. Let’s listen and discern and speak life and truth. Let’s move forward with love and see with new vision. Vision our county to be on the right track. It starts with us…just do it…Positive Thoughts Equals Positive Results!

Faith and Blue Prints

•September 8, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Faith is acting out what you believe. When you do not have a blue print for your life, life just happens. When you have a blue print, your life actions will make more sense and build up right. (by the way I am speaking to myself too) Take the time to write it out with vision. One thing about faith is that no one can have it for you. Start to have a purpose for every little and big thing.

Know that your dreams and wishes for your life is and should not be shared with everyone. Although you may see it to be a great thing, others may not. Your circle of friends, family, co-workers and even your pastor, children and spouse can be contagious. People can say discouraging things to you and suddenly you change directions. Some trips need to be taken solo.

Take time to meditate, fast and pray. Your beliefs may be different from mine, but at the end of the day or the beginning, think positive and wish others well. Realize that yesterday is no more and this moment is a new beginning. Our children, our world, our own lives deserve better…now let’s see great things happen. Speak life, not death. Love is Love!

Stand up and be counted!

When is the time right to step up and speak the truth? We see super stars and super models and many other so-called super humans doing many things in front of the media. The media can sometimes portray the individuals to be as big hearted or as disturbed as they truly are. Having responsibilities is a part of life. Life is just that, to live and become the real and better you and vote for a change.

I was recently granted my real estate license. The process took over a year. In front of the judge  and the real estate commissioner’s lawyer there I stood to present my case.  My testimony poured out several reasons why I thought  I deserved another my sales license.  Not speaking for everyone but at the age of twenty what does a person really know?  The night club brawl that consisted of underage drinking and a wrong way of handling things landed an upset girl in the hospital and the other finger printed.  Underage drinking and partying with the best of them.

Having some what of the same mind sets in the same club was too much and not enough of the other.  The reasons and the whys do not matter, a crime is a crime.  My thoughts were that if you hit me I will hit you harder. …do I regret my actions?…yes! …then I voted for myself to be a better me.

My childhood like so many others were some what of a disturbance and enjoyable at the same time. Today, I can see where I have made so many crucial mistakes. As some know I was a youth that went through hatred, molestation, being promiscuous and other things that could and can cause a spiral affect. I hid a lot of hurt and pains through mischiefs. Most people do. Understanding that no matter what others think of you, what really matters is how you feel about your self. Most of what we experiment is related to what we went through at an earlier age.  (good and or bad)  For certain, we are in control of our own destiny.  At the same time we must view what our surrounding’s are and make changes where needed. Step out of denial and make a change.  How do you feel about yourself?  …are you worthy enough to be voted for?

Reality is that there are so many people locked up and the keys were thrown away before they could say guilty or not guilty. We can make many speculations and tallies of the truth.  We can tell all the reasons to vote or not to vote for someone.  If you do not vote, you do not have a say.  If you are able to vote, do so.  Yes, I can say that every vote has not always counted. (Florida for one)  This election, vote.  Leave and speak your voice.  The U.S. has come a long way.  While we are still traveling forward let’s do a magnificent job for our country and a more excellent job for self. …Stand up and be counted!

Time is now to release our own sabotages in life.  Time is now to learn a new skill.  Stand up for the under dog, give someone a compliment, explain the voting process, tell them about the birds and the bees.   No one is perfect but we can continue to work on perfection! The moral of the story is for us to do our part and be persistent. Have faith and be a role model for others. …life is too short, fall in love with self all over again and you be the super hero.  Let’s take time for self and others and be great leaders for today and tomorrow.   Vote and be counted and watch a change take place.  …today, and when the race to the White House is over, continue to vote for you.

McCain’s Crazy ‘Spiritual Advisor’

For all of those who like to say Barack Obama can never get elected because of his connection to Rev. Jeremiah Wright, please watch this revealing video of McCain and the preacher he calls his ’spiritual advisor.” Scary?
